Denzell Watts Commits To Alabama-Birmingham

Aug 31, 2012 1:04 AM

Denzel Watts announced his verbal commitment to Alabama-Birmingham.

“Growing up as a kid, I was always told that hard work is going to pay off,” Watts said. “As a kid you don’t listen but it has all paid off for me, so I just want to thank God for that. God has blessed me with 14 Division I offers and I narrowed it down to three schools.”

Watts chose the Blazers over Florida State and USC, his other two finalists.

“It’s not all about how everyone hypes it up for you to go to the biggest school that you can,” Watts said. “You have to go where you fit in the most and where you feel the most comfortable and I felt the most comfortable at UAB.”

Chris McCullough took his second unofficial visit to Stanford on Monday, his AAU coach, Terrence Williams said.

"I think those guys did a great job, especially with it being the first day back for students," Williams, said. "(Assistant) coach (Aki) Collins did a phenomenal job. They explained the difference between Conference USA and the Big East, and the type of high-level players they're looking for. They made us feel at home. It was a great experience, overall."

McCullough is considering Memphis, Syracuse, St. John's, Arizona, UCLA and Louisville, among others.

"As of today, I think Memphis is gonna be a school that he watches as to how they perform this year and how they do in their 2013 recruiting class," Williams said. "I think if (Memphis) coach (Josh) Pastner (succeeds) at both at a high level, I can see Memphis being a major player in Chris' sweepstakes."

"Every coach on my list is just gonna let me play my game, they tell me they're gonna put the ball in my hands, and I can win at each program," Jones said. "Each coach is willing to get me to the next level."

Jones will visit each school besides Memphis, as the Memphis native has been on campus multiple times, and then sign in November's early signing period.

"Chris has managed the recruiting process well," Northwest Florida State coach Steve Forbes said. "I'm proud of him. He's made himself accessible and he got to know the coaches as best he could. When he came in my office (Friday), he had a really good idea of where he was at."

Maryland Zeroing In On Recruitment Of Roddy Peters

Aug 17, 2012 10:49 AM

Roddy Peters has seemingly become Maryland’s top priority for the 2013 class.

The 6-foot-4 point guard from District Heights (Md.) took an official visit to College Park earlier this week.

“It went really good. I liked it,” said Peters, whose rapid summer ascent landed him as a consensus top-50 recruit. "They took me around to see everything, I got to see the dorms, talked to a couple of the players (Nick Faust and Pe’Shon Howard), met the trainers … They just said that they really want me at Maryland. That’s what (my mom) liked. Coach (Mark) Turgeon told me he really wanted me. She likes them.

“He told me how I can come in and be a point guard, how he thinks I fit the style,” he continued. “Of course, they were all saying that I should commit, but I still want to weigh my options.”

Peters is also considering Georgetown, Xavier, UCLA, Memphis and Rutgers.

“At first everyone thought I would commit [when Maryland offered], but I have all types of schools now. It’s really all about where I’m most comfortable,” he said. “I’ve got some thinking to do. I think I’ll commit during basketball season.”
